Kidney care that walks the whole journey with you.

If you or someone you love has just been told they need dialysis, you probably have more questions than answers. This is the place to find them — explained plainly, by the team who will be looking after you.

You are not alone

Advanced Renal Care is a nephrology and dialysis practice with two clinics in Gauteng. Our team looks after people from the earliest stages of kidney disease through to long-term haemodialysis — and we look after the families walking alongside them.

The journey, mapped

The road ahead is known. Here it is, step by step.

Nothing about this has to be a surprise. Follow it in order, or jump to the stage you are at.

So what is dialysis?

Healthy kidneys clean your blood, removing waste and extra fluid. When they can no longer do enough of that work, haemodialysis does it for them: your blood travels through soft tubing to a filter, is cleaned, and returns to your body.

It usually happens three times a week, for around four hours a session, in a comfortable chair with a nurse close by. Most people read, watch television, work, sleep or chat their way through it.

It is a treatment, not an ending. People work, travel, raise children and grow old on dialysis.
